Unix and Windows 2000 Integration

You are probably fortunate if you don't yet have to contend with Win2k, but you can't be too complacent: if NT is part of your OS mix, you know Windows 2000 is on the horizon.

This book is written from the viewpoint of a Unix administrator who has to deal with NT. However, because the author wants to put everyone on the same page, it does include an excellent and quite complete overview of Unix at its beginning. It then proceeds with another in depth and quite good overview of NT in general and Windows 2000 specifically. That's much more than an overview; it covers six chapters.

The rest of the book (11 chapters) covers integration issues, including Samba, Kerberos, LDAP and Active Directory, the expected NFS stuff, cross platform backups and client emulation packages. There's also a chapter on security and integrating Unix and Win Kerberos authentication.

There's probably not much here on the integration side that the typical Unix administrator isn't already familiar with, but it might be useful to have the specific Windows 2000 slant if that's the environment you have.
