Visibility Using Action Script in Flash MX 2004

Movie clip has a lot of properties and many of them may be changed using action script coding. I want to teach you how you may influence the visibility of your movie clip. If you experience some difficulties while reading this tutorial it is recommended to read all the previous tutorials on http://www.metamorphozis.com written by me as some aspects might be discussed earlier.

1. Launch Flash MX 2004

2. Create new Flash file. Click File > New…

3. Select Flash Document in a new window

4. With the "Oval Tool (O)" draw a simple circle. Set its background color to black. Rename this layer to "shape".

5. Convert oval shape to a movie clip. Change the instance name of the movie clip to "shape"

6. Create new layer. Name it "button1". With the "Rectangle Tool (R)" draw the rectangle shape inside that layer. Convert this shape to button.

7. With the "Text Tool (T)" create label for that button: Make shape invisible.

8. Add the following action script code to that button:

on (press) {
tellTarget ("/shape") {
if (_alpha-5>0) {
_alpha-=15;
}
}
}

9. Press "Ctrl+Enter" and make several clicks on the button. If everything was done correctly you should see that the oval shape disappeared. Now we need to create the button to bring the shape back visible.
Create new layer, name it "button2". With the "Rectangle Tool (R)" draw another button. Make a label for it: "Make shape visible"

10. Add the following action script code to that button:

on (press) {
tellTarget ("/shape") {
if (_alpha+5<100) {
_alpha+=15;
}
}
}

11. Press "Ctrl+Enter". Click on those buttons to see if they both work fine. That's all folks! Thanks for reading!
