Using JDBC to Create Database Objects

By James W. Cooper
2003-05-24

Connecting to a Database

All of the database objects and methods are in the java.sql package, and you must import java.sql.* into any programs that use JDBC. To connect to an ODBC database, you must first load the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver

Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");

String url = "jdbc:odbc:Grocery prices";
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url);

jdbc:subprotocol:subname

jdbc:bark//doggie/elliott

jdbc:bark//doggie/elliot;UID=GoodDog;PWD=woof
