Thanks for this post! I have avoided apache stuff forever out of laziness - this solved my problem! The main thing I wanted to do was to be able to work on clients wordpress sites while keeping a static home page up. There may be a million more ways to do this, but this works for me, and I love not having to connect to the internet. Thanks again!

MAMP is an amazing tool. We use it when developing websites and blogs using WordPress. It sure beats having to work with the on a live site. Plus it's nice to be able to use it, regardless if you have an internet connection.

Thanks for the post. #5 was very helpful.

How do you setup internal links to use relative paths? Tried removing "http://localhost:8888/wordpress" but it doesn't work.

Is there an extension for Dreamweaver for developing your posts using Dreamweaver's GUI offline? I know you purpose is for a completely local setup, so this is a little off topic but I thought maybe you'd have run across this.

I would like to have Dreamweaver work like an offline blogging client, like Ecto or Windows Live Writer, connect using an API and pull down posts. That way I can use DW's linking features to save time.

If you know how to do this, but haven't written about it, it would make a great blog post tutorial. I have searched for quite some time online and can't find a thing. Everyone talks about extensions to help GUI dependent people edit themes.

Thanks for posting this. Note to others who might be copying/pasting—as I did— to bear in mind the type of single quotes used in the post above. These need to be changed to regular quotes in a plain text editor to work in SQL.
