Customer and citizen confidence and behavior is influenced by perceptions of how commercial and governmental organizations manage private information. At the same time, U.S. Federal Trade Commission annual surveys regarding identity theft and other reports of fraud linked to the failure to properly manage or destroy private information indicate that such incidents are significantly increasing, both in terms of the number of such incidents as well as their impact. |
